The role of RTI in special education is the early identification of studentââ¬â¢s at-risk with learning difficulties. RTI data can be essential for prevention and interventions with the SLD identification process. The Data gathered through RTI can be used in SLD intervention determinations. When the model is properly used, all students identified for SLD needs more services than the interventions provided in Tier 1 and 2. RTI should be used in conjunction with other measures (e.g. CHC theory, multi-data source assessments, curriculum based measures) when determining a SLD classification. According to IDEA, a student with a SLD has a ââ¬Å"neurologically based disorder or specific cognitive disorder.â⬠In regards to special education, there must also be an evaluation/assessment of an individualââ¬â¢s performance in cognitive abilities and psychological/neuropsychological processes related to the academics, where as there is an adverse impact on their educational performanc e. As previously learned in the 2006 Federal Regulations, it states ââ¬Å"states must adopt a criterion for determining if a student has a disabilityâ⬠.
